Sunshine

There are beautiful blue skies and bright sunshine today. Still cool, but absolutely lovely. Made it up to the plot for about 930am this morning and did a couple of hours of pottering:

  • weeded, levelled and added 3 barrowfuls of leafmould to bed #7 – the last of yesterday’s lovely delivery
  • flattened the paths between beds 7, 8 and 9 and added spruce woodchip that was delivered to the top gate yesterday – it looks (and smells) fantastic
  • sowed some seeds: parsnips, radishes (Red Flesh / Tricolore), lettuce (morton’s secret mix), calendula Orange King, Limanthes Douglasii,  yellow carrots and beetroot Sanguina

Freshly sown seeds and blue skies

Sowing seeds peacefully in the sunshine, I had that lovely feeling I’ve not had for a while and that I only get when allotmenting: a combination of peace, stillness, focus, satisfaction and connection. I feel like I’ve cleared out my lungs and my mind. Everything I was worried about at work seems somehow less worrying or important. Instead of tired, overwhelmed and stressed (Friday’s main feelings), after 2 consecutive days on the plot I now feel strong, peaceful and happy. It’s like magic, it really is.

  1. What a big difference you are making on your plot. I’m sure you’ll love the raised beds; I sure love mine…lots more productive and much less work. Loved the rainbow photo!
