I did a lovely big seed order a few weeks ago from The Real Seed Company. I love The Real Seed Company’s ethos (they use organic seeds and help you save your own, not that I ever actually do) and their seeds are good quality and reliable.
Last weekend I had a mammoth seed-sowing session at home, some in peat-free seed compost and some in coir jiffy 7’s, which are a very excellent plastic-free way of growing seedlings.
I sowed (in the coldframe):
- calendula orange king, lemon zest and pot
- nigella Miss Jekyl
- Tagetes
- Bupleurum
- cornflower blue, and black ball
- sunflower ruby sunset and giraffe
- sweet pea old fashioned mix, spencer special mix, matucana and an unnamed white / pink variety
- broad bean aquadulce longpod
- pea charmmette and jessy
- lettuce morton’s special mix
- radish – red flesh and mystery mix
- kale – nero di toscana
- rhubarb chard
- onion red beard and feast
- garlic chives
- parsley (flat leaf)
And in the heated propagator /inside:
- tomatoes: gardener’s delight (Irish), Latah and Wentzell
- sweet peppers
- celery
- celariac
The tomatoes have germinated already but I’m keeping them inside until the peppers germinate too, at risk of the toms getting spindly.
